Fixing The iPad Ghost Touch Issue

Time Needed : 8 minutes

As long as it isn’t a hardware problem, you should be able to get rid of the ghost touches on your iPad by doing these procedures.

  1. Perform the Forced Restart

The first thing you should do if you’re dealing with the ghost touch issue is to force restart your device. This will refresh the memory and reload all services. Needless to say, it brings your iPad back to its normal operation. Here’s how it is done:

    1. Press and hold the Home button and the Power key for 10 seconds. It will force the iPad to power down and boot up again.
    2. So once you see the Apple logo, release both keys and wait until the restart is finished.

After this, try to see if the ghost touches still occur.

  2. Reset all the setting on your iPad

If the forced restart failed to fix the problem, the next thing you have to do is to reset all the settings. This is to rule out the possibility that the ghost touches is caused by some inappropriate settings on your device. Here’s how it’s done:

    1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
    2. Tap General, if it’s not selected yet.
    3. Touch Reset.
    4. Touch Reset All Settings.
    5. If prompted, enter your security lock.
    6. Tap Reset to proceed with settings reset, and tap reset again to confirm.

Most of the time, these are the only procedures you need to do to get rid of the ghost touches.

However, after doing the first two solutions and your iPad still has the ghost touches, then it’s time that you reset it. A factory reset will be able to fix this. However, make sure to backup your important files. When ready, follow these steps to reset your device:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Tap General, if it’s not selected yet.
  3. Touch Reset.
  4. Tap Erase All Contents and Settings.
  5. Tap Erase Now.
  6. If prompted, enter your security lock.
  7. Touch Erase.
  8. Tap Erase again to proceed with the reset.
  9. Now enter your Apple ID password.
  10. When ready, tap Erase at the upper-right corner to reset your iPad.

After the reset, set up your iPad as a new device and don’t install anything yet. If the ghost touches still occur, then it’s a possible hardware issue. With that, you need to set up an appointment at the Genius Bar, or bring the iPad to a reliable technician.
