How to iPhone WiFi signal keeps dropping after iOS 13.2.3 update


When your iPhone starts to keeps on dropping its WiFi signal, the problem can be with the network device or your phone itself. Some owners reported that such issue occurred shortly after they’ve updated their phones to iOS 13.2.3. It’s a minor update but bring stability to some of the services on your iPhone. If a problem like this started after such update, then it should not be that serious.

I have personally encountered a problem like this in the past and I can tell you that you can fix it by doing some basic troubleshooting procedures. That’s what I’m going to share with you in this post. So, if you’re one of the owners with a problem like this, continue reading this article as we may be able to help you one way or another.

Troubleshooting an iPhone that keeps dropping its WiFi signal after an update

Network issues occur every now and then. They may be really annoying but they’re not necessarily that hard to fix. In this troubleshooting guide, you will learn what to do if your iPhone starts to drop its WiFi signal. We will try to consider all possibilities and rule them out one after another until we can figure out what the problem really is and what needs to be done to fix it. With that being said, here are the things I suggest you do about this issue…

First solution: Restart your network device and force restart iPhone

Just because your iPhone started to drop its internet connection doesn’t mean that it has a problem. It is possible that such issue is caused by a failing network device. Thus the first thing you have to do is restart your router or modem and see what happens. Here’s how:

  1. Unplug your modem or router from the wall outlet or simply disconnect the power cord from the main unit.
  2. Leave it without power for a minute or two.
  3. While waiting, quickly press and release the Volume Up button, and then the Volume Down button. After releasing the volume down button, press and hold the Power key until the logo shows.
  4. Now plug the power cord of your network device back into the wall outlet, or reconnect the cord to the main unit.
  5. Wait for the device to become online and your phone to finish rebooting, and then reconnect to the network.

If your iPhone still drops its WiFi signal and loses its connection after this, then try the next solution.

Second solution: Reset all Network settings on your iPhone

After making sure that the problem isn’t with your network device, the next thing you have to do is refresh all network or wireless services on your iPhone. You can do so by resetting all network settings. Don’t worry, none of your files will be deleted. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen, and then touch Reset.
  4. Touch Reset Network Settings.
  5. If prompted, enter your security lock.
  6. Tap Reset Network Settings at the bottom of the screen.

Your iPhone will reboot after this, once it has finished rebooting, try to see if the problem is fixed. Most of the time, this problem can be fixed by this solution. It’s very effective when it comes to problems concerning wireless connectivity. However, if the device  continues to drop its WiFi signal, then move on to the next solution.

Third solution: Factory reset your iPhone that drops its WiFi signal

If your iPhone still drops its WiFi signal even after doing the previous procedures, then you should reset it. A reset will be able to fix network issues including this problem, but make sure to create a backup of your important files and data because they will be deleted and you may not be able to retrieve them. When ready, follow these steps:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Find and tap General.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen, and then touch Reset.
  4. Tap Erase All Contents and Settings.
  5. Tap Erase Now.
  6. If prompted, enter your security lock.
  7. Tap Erase iPhone at the bottom of the screen.
  8. Tap Erase iPhone again to proceed.
  9. Now enter your Apple ID password, and then tap Erase to proceed with the reset.
  10. Wait until your iPhone has finished the reset, and then set it up as a new device.

As long as your iPhone does not have any signs of physical or liquid damage and provided that this problem started only after an update, then a factory reset should be able to fix it. However, if it continues to drop its WiFi signal even after the reset, then you should try restoring it.

Fourth solution: DFU Restore your iPhone

Since the problem started after an update, it’s possible that the firmware is corrupt or there are some files that got corrupted during the process. Thus, it’s important that you tried restoring your iPhone. Here’s how it’s done on your device:

  1. Connect your iPhone to the computer then launch iTunes or Finder.
  2. While your device is connected, quickly press and release the Volume Up button.
  3. Then, quickly press and release the Volume Down button.
  4. Finally, press and hold the Side button until your iPhone screen turns black.
  5. Keep holding the Side button when the screen turns black and then press the Volume Down button.
  6. Hold both buttons for 5 seconds.
  7. After 5 seconds, release the Power button but keep holding the Volume Down button for another 10 seconds.

If the problem continues, then schedule an appointment at the Genius Bar so that a technician can check this problem for you.
